Job Description

Overview

The Transportation Maintenance Worker is responsible for assisting in the construction, repair, and maintenance of City roadways, and may be required to respond to off-hours on-call service.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs and maintenance operations on city rights-of-way or property.
  • Removes litter and illegal dumping.
  • Assists with the installation of concrete.
  • Digs trenches and cleans catch basins and manholes.
  • Clears debris from roadways.
  • Removes dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way.
  • Operates equipment such as chainsaws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chipper, mowers, and tractors.
  • Performs maintenance and construction tasks for asphalt paving and repair operations.
  • Flags traffic at construction and maintenance projects.
  • Performs roadside tree and vegetation control and emergency hazard response.
  • Assists with inclement weather removal within the roadway and rights-of-way.
  • Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections of city vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, custodial, or related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • Other certifications may be required upon employment.
