Overview

The Shipbuilding Instructor at Hanwha Philly Shipyard serves as a subject matter expert in welding, promoting safety culture, supporting workforce development, and ensuring training aligns with production and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures and regulations.
  • Demonstrate CORE principles: Caring, One-Shipyard, Responsible, and Evolving.
  • Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in shipbuilding disciplines.
  • Instruct trainees on shipyard safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Demonstrate proper use of shipbuilding tools and machinery.
  • Provide training in shipbuilding fundamentals, structural fabrication, and welding techniques.
  • Conduct practical demonstrations and skill assessments.
  • Develop and update shipbuilding training curriculum and exercises.
  • Oversee and document apprentice progress as a Roving Instructor.
  • Support the Apprenticeship Coordinator with program activities.
  • Pass the HPSI Shipbuilder FCAW & SMAW qualification test.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of shipbuilding or related industrial experience.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding operations and fabrication processes.
  • Experience with education and curriculum development preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Completion of a registered apprenticeship program preferred.
