Overview

The Welder III position involves performing complex welding and fabrication activities for manufacturing boilers and pressure vessels, serving as a subject matter expert in multiple welding processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced welding of carbon steel and other materials according to engineering drawings and ASME Code requirements.
  • Independently complete complex fabrication, fit-up, and welding assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Utilize multiple qualified welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SAW.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, weld symbols, and production specifications.
  • Verify fit-up quality and joint preparation before welding operations.
  • Perform visual self-inspections to ensure weld quality and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot welding issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist Quality Control during inspections and audits.
  • Support qualification and testing of new welding procedures.
  • Provide leadership and training to less experienced welders.
  • Assist supervisors in evaluating welding techniques and skill development.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety and quality.
  • Maintain required welding certifications and qualifications.
  • Complete tasks within established production schedules while maintaining quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all Quality Control requirements and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrate Watts’ values of Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, and Transparency.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of welding experience in manufacturing or heavy fabrication.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.
  • Current welding qualifications or ability to pass advanced welding qualification tests.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy and fabrication techniques.
  • Experience performing complex weld fit-up and dimensional verification.
  • Ability to use precision measuring devices and inspection tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to welding.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced welders.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing safety requirements.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Understanding of applicable laws, codes, and safety practices.
