Overview

WSP is seeking an Associate Structural Engineer for its offices in Los Angeles, CA; Las Vegas, VA; and Salt Lake City, UT. The role involves supporting technical staff and project managers in the design and construction of building and infrastructure projects, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering work for new concrete, CMU, steel, metal stud, light-frame wood, and mass timber structures.
  • Develop structural engineering solutions for re-use of existing building structures through retrofitting or resiliency assessments.
  • Incorporate advanced modeling techniques and design requirements for safety and functionality.
  • Contribute to project coordination through meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and work site logs.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on structural soundness.
  • Prepare data visualizations, reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations.
  • Maintain quality control standards for measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of small to medium-sized projects.
  • Contribute to technical reports and presentations explaining research and findings.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys for design and construction issues.
  • Write technical reports summarizing research findings and conclusions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on project execution.
  • Assist with work plan preparation and site work coordination.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with engineers and professionals on various funded projects.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Highly familiar with structural and civil construction laws and compliance practices.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgement in decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing and office automation software.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software like SAFE, ETABS, and AutoCAD.
