Overview

The General Services Agency (GSA) is responsible for a wide range of services to County departments, requiring a diverse workforce. The Fleet Maintenance Welder position involves performing arc and gas welding for the fabrication and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, modifies, and repairs fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and related machinery using arc or gas welding equipment.
  • Performs structural welding.
  • Lays out work or works from blueprints in making parts or devices.
  • Builds and repairs racks, brackets, metal housings, guards, and other components used in fleet operations.
  • Operates construction, off-road, and automotive equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in arc, gas, and structural welding.
  • Equivalent to two years of industrial, automotive, or equipment-repair welding.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid Class A/Commercial California driver license.
  • Must meet requirements for GSA's respiratory protection program.
  • Must possess certification for welding.

Additional Information

  • Maintenance Welders are represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 501) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
  • This position requires a full range of mobility including reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting and lifting heavy objects and equipment.
  • Eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies within the General Services Agency, Fleet Department.
