Overview

The General Services Agency (GSA) is responsible for a broad spectrum of services to all County departments and agencies, requiring a diverse workforce. The Fleet Maintenance Welder position involves performing arc and gas welding and brazing in the fabrication and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, modifies, and repairs fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and related machinery using arc or gas welding equipment.
  • Performs structural welding.
  • Lays out work or works from blueprints in making parts or devices.
  • Builds and repairs racks, brackets, metal housings, guards, and other components used in fleet operations.
  • Operates construction, off-road, and automotive equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in arc, gas, and structural welding.
  • Equivalent to two years of industrial, automotive, or equipment-repair welding.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid Class A/Commercial California driver license.
  • Must meet requirements for GSA's respiratory protection program.
  • Must possess certification for welding.

Additional Information

  • Maintenance Welders are represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 501) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
  • This position requires a full range of mobility including reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting and lifting heavy objects and equipment.
  • Candidates must pass a practical welding examination to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
