Overview

Port Houston is seeking a Crane Technician 2nd Class to assist in troubleshooting, adjusting, repairing, and conducting preventative maintenance on cranes. The organization is committed to excellence and offers a diverse, inclusive work environment with opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities

• Learn and apply technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems to determine equipment malfunction and restore it to OEM standards.
• Assist in inspection, repair, and maintenance of wharf and RTG cranes.
• Diagnose problems or recurring malfunctions and choose the course of action to repair or troubleshoot.
• Diagnose electrical or mechanical problems using appropriate equipment and tools.
• Repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, and compressors.
• Ensure safety and environmental procedures are exercised during daily activities.
• Study and learn electrical controls and circuits installed on Port Houston equipment.
• Study and learn electrical medium voltage switchgear.
• Coordinate maintenance-related activities with the manager on duty during shift work.
• Assist in installing electrical controls and circuits for various electrical equipment.
• Replace worn, defective, or damaged equipment using appropriate tools.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings in installing and troubleshooting electrical equipment.
• Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required.
• Estimate and obtain supplies needed for electrical work assignments.
• Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime.
• Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor.
• Act in accordance with Port Houston core values.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• 2+ years electrical experience.
• 2+ years related electrical experience required.
• Electrician Journeyman License preferred.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical codes.
• Knowledge of basic electronic troubleshooting and repairs.
• Knowledge of environmental and security controls.
• Ample knowledge of electricity, electrical systems, and equipment operating at the PHA.
• Knowledge of control circuits, DC and AC crane drives, and power distribution.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain State of Texas Electrician’s license.
• A current, valid Texas driver's license is required.
• A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment.

• Work site location is Bayport Maintenance.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may occasionally be high.
