Job Description

Overview

Port Houston is seeking an Apprentice Crane Technician to assist with various job assignments under close supervision, gaining skills and responsibilities related to crane maintenance and operation. This apprenticeship combines classroom training with 8000 hours of paid on-the-job training over a period of up to 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cranes.
  • Learn to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore them to OEM standards.
  • Utilize safety and environmental procedures in all duties.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Crane Technicians and Electricians.
  • Study electrical controls and circuits on Port Houston equipment.
  • Support diagnosis of electrical or mechanical problems using appropriate tools.
  • Assist in the installation of electrical controls for various equipment.
  • Conduct repairs and preventative maintenance on machinery components.
  • Review and interpret factory manuals and blueprints as needed.
  • Work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as required.
  • Act in accordance with Port Houston core values.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Ability to be a self-starter with initiative.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Judgment and quick-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work from written or oral directions.
  • Comfortable with heights and ability to climb.
  • Ability to operate a forklift if needed.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with others.
  • General working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
  • A valid Texas driver's license is required.
  • Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 30 days.
