Overview

The City of Huntington Park's Public Works Department is hiring a Facility Repair Specialist to perform skilled building maintenance in areas such as heating and air conditioning, carpentry, and other building trades. This position offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Alters, repairs or constructs articles and structures such as counters, doors, window frames, sheds, scaffolds, forms, and fences.
  • Repairs and maintains parking meters.
  • Makes and repairs furniture, equipment and fixtures.
  • Performs mill and cabinet work.
  • Maintains and repairs floors and woodwork.
  • Fits doors, windows, sashes, and screens.
  • Operates lathes, planers, shapers.
  • Welds and brazes equipment using acetylene and electric welding equipment.
  • Makes minor plumbing and plastering repairs.
  • Maintains, installs and repairs air conditioning and heating equipment.
  • Prepares estimates of work to be done, materials needed and time to accomplish task.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of position are performed in a safe efficient manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as situation requires.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE.
  • Four years of experience in carpentry and/or general maintenance with experience in other allied crafts used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Possess good mechanical aptitude.
  • Possess skills to word process general correspondence, spreadsheets and reports using a personal computer and software application.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain smooth and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility to maintain a safe working environment.
  • A valid Class C California Driver’s License.
