Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at BBA, you will engage in engineering proposals and projects within the mining and metals industry across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring high-quality service delivery while fostering client and team relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in engineering studies, design and project delivery
  • Prepare technical documents such as reports, specifications and deliverables
  • Lead technical deliverables, mentor and review engineering work
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated solutions
  • Help prepare proposals and engineering service estimates
  • Support client relationships by understanding needs and proposing solutions
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Participate in site visits, inspections and commissioning activities as required
  • Design mechanical systems including equipment, piping, pumping systems, and material handling
  • Develop layouts, perform sizing calculations and validate equipment selection

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States, or eligible
  • PE license in either Arizona or Nevada is mandatory
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in mining, energy or heavy industry
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary consulting engineering environment
  • Ability to interpret process and engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, drawings)
  • Field experience in construction, commissioning, and site support
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients and teams
  • Valid driver’s license and available for occasional travel
  • Experience with equipment design and selection, piping systems, and material handling
  • Experience with layout development and mechanical calculations
  • Experience with bulk material handling systems, pumping systems, piping networks, crushers and process equipment
  • Experience developing PFD/P&ID-based layouts, equipment arrangement and 3D modelling validation
  • Experience with hydraulic sizing, pump selection, stress considerations and material selection
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API and other relevant industry and piping standards
  • Experience with P&IDs, isometrics, general arrangement, equipment lists and line list standards
  • Asset: advanced engineering degree (M.Sc. or equivalent)
  • Asset: experience in engineering estimates and proposal preparation
  • Asset: project management and project control skills
  • Asset: experience with relevant software and design tools (discipline-specific)
  • Asset: Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SmartPlant and AFT Fathom software
