Overview

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a senior structural engineer to join their growing team in Texas, focusing on ports and maritime projects. The role involves leading design and fostering client relationships while collaborating with local and national teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design from conceptual phase through design completion for marine structures.
  • Apply expert knowledge of structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Find non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
  • Lead teams through challenging designs and schedules.
  • Implement innovative solutions for projects and processes.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders.
  • Help clients understand the impact of design decisions on schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate with managers and marketing staff for business development.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key clients and contractors.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Participate in project fees, schedules, scopes, budgets, and construction planning.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Participate in construction administration and resolve design-related issues.
  • Lead field inspections and prepare technical reports.
  • Comply with company and site safety policies.
  • Participate in regional trade associations and professional organizations.
  • Assist in managing project and program resources and sub-consultants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE).
  • Minimum of 7 years structural engineering experience or a master's degree in Structural Engineering and 6 years of experience.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE-7).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading the design of large projects and delegating work tasks.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Required.

Additional Information

  • This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
  • Primary Location: US-TX-Houston; Other Locations: US-TX-Austin, US-TX-Dallas.
