Overview

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a senior structural engineer to join their growing team in Texas, focusing on ports and maritime projects. This role involves leading project teams, fostering client relationships, and delivering innovative structural designs for critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design from conceptual phase through design completion for marine structures.
  • Apply expert knowledge of structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Find non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
  • Lead teams through challenging designs and schedules while mentoring team members.
  • Implement innovative solutions for projects and processes in collaboration with designers and construction teams.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders, translating complex concepts.
  • Help clients understand the impact of design decisions on schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate with managers and marketing staff to identify business development opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with key clients and contractors to develop business.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Participate in project fee, schedule, scope, budget, and staff planning.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Participate in construction administration and resolve design-related installation issues.
  • Lead field inspections and prepare technical reports for clients.
  • Comply with company and site safety policies.
  • Participate in regional trade associations and professional organizations.
  • Assist in managing project resources and sub-consultants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of FE exam, PE License, and a minimum of 7 years structural engineering experience, or a master's degree in Structural Engineering and 6 years experience.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE-7).
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading large projects and delegating tasks.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work analytically.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for engineering documents.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.

Additional Information

  • This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
  • Primary Location: US-TX-Houston; Other Locations: US-TX-Austin, US-TX-Dallas.
  • Schedule: Full-time; Travel: Yes, 15% of the Time.
