Overview

The Highway & Construction Laborer position at the Department of Transportation involves maintaining safe and efficient transportation systems. This role offers a $4,000 hiring incentive and requires various levels of experience in highway operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate motorized vehicles and equipment for highway maintenance.
  • Perform pavement care and preservation tasks.
  • Conduct landscape care and preservation.
  • Restore and repair roadside shoulders.
  • Handle signing and striping of roadways.
  • Deliver equipment and materials as needed.
  • Ensure environmental compliance.
  • Care for vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • Highway Operations Worker: 6 months of related experience preferred.
  • Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of job-related experience required.
  • Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of job-related experience required.
  • Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of job-related experience required.
  • Arizona CDL (Class 'A') permit within 90 days of hire and license within 6 months for Highway Operations Worker.
  • Arizona Class 'A' CDL with tanker endorsement required for Highway Operations Tech 1-3.
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is required.

Additional Information

  • Position located at Tempe Maintenance, 2540 W. Broadway, Tempe, AZ 85282.
  • Respond to emergency call outs 24/7.
  • Must be able to respond to the Maintenance yard within 30 minutes.
  • May encounter extremes of cold and heat, rugged terrain, and high-speed traffic conditions.
  • Position requires lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
