Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units. Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, estimate, sequence, and perform tasks related to the weld shop.
  • Use processes such as cutting, grinding, painting, and welding to fabricate tools.
  • Coordinate and plan work with other employees using engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Understand and perform material preparation and various welding processes.
  • Perform welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and others.
  • Ensure all welds meet visual and functional standards.
  • Maintain weld certifications and perform basic shop math.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance.
  • TIG weld various metals and alloys for experimental and production parts.
  • Read and interpret weld symbols and engineering drawings.

Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work any shift.
  • TIG welding experience with Aluminum, Stainless alloys, titanium, and Inconel preferred.
  • Production aircraft welding experience preferred.
  • Experience in precision fabrication with metals.
  • Familiarity with AWS D17.1.
  • Ability to follow engineering drawings and weld symbols.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
