Job Description

Overview

The MWRA is seeking a Metal Fabricator/Welder to join their mission-driven team, which delivers high-quality drinking water and protects public resources. This role involves fabricating and repairing metal parts, performing maintenance on equipment, and ensuring safety in a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, cuts, forms, welds, assembles and installs metal parts of equipment according to drawings and instructions.
  • Assembles and disassembles scaffolding, staging, flooring and grating.
  • Sets up and operates hand, electric and air-operated tools, hydraulic jacks and hoists using oxyacetylene and electric arc welding equipment.
  • Sketches work to be completed and interprets blueprints to estimate size of parts needed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on pumps, generators, valves, turbines, gates and related equipment.
  • Rigs equipment to be moved using cranes and hoists.
  • Evaluates equipment, reports damage and unsafe conditions, and recommends maintenance program requirements.
  • Performs light maintenance independently or as part of a team.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots various systems and equipment.
  • Installs and retrofits new equipment related to plant systems.
  • Modifies and aligns existing equipment to specifications.
  • Operates portable pumping and ventilation equipment to prepare a work area.
  • Opens hatches and installs safety rails.
  • Conducts routine testing, lockout/tagout, and adjustment of process equipment.
  • Removes snow from the immediate work area.
  • Promotes and participates in cross-functional work practices.
  • Trains peers and subordinates as requested.

Requirements

  • A high school education or the equivalent.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school.
  • At least three years metal trades apprenticeship or related experience.
  • A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operators license.
  • Completion of productivity improvement competency-based training program related to essential duties.
