Job Description

Overview

The Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work on various marine and civil construction projects, including infrastructure such as wharves, bridges, and seawalls. This role requires strong technical skills and safety awareness, with the ability to work as part of a team to deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction, fabrication, installation, and dismantling of form work for fixtures of metal, wood, and other accessories.
  • Build, install, and repair timber and concrete structures, including formwork, foundations, wharves, bridges, seawalls, and retaining walls.
  • Read and follow construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure structures meet project requirements.
  • Construct and strip forms for poured-in-place concrete using dimensional lumber, plywood, and modular systems.
  • Perform carpentry work in coastal, over-water, tidal, and confined space conditions, ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, and pneumatic tools correctly and maintain them in working condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including fall protection, PPE requirements, and marine construction best practices.
  • Coordinate daily activities with supervisors, laborers, and other trades to meet production goals and maintain quality standards.
  • Evaluate completed work for accuracy, structural integrity, and conformance to specifications, making corrections as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Journeyman level Carpenter experience.
