Overview

The Senior Structural Engineer 2 - Grid position at Sargent & Lundy involves applying expertise in materials, structural analysis, and design to power transmission projects. The role includes both in-office and hybrid work, focusing on structural engineering challenges and client interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and design to power transmission modifications.
  • Investigate and solve various structural engineering issues.
  • Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, and concrete members.
  • Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations.
  • Interface directly with clients and communicate technical information.
  • Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
  • Review work performed by others, including calculations and drawings.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure timely design.
  • Review existing facilities for upgrades and present findings to clients.
  • Engage in peer-learning and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.

Requirements

  • BSCE or MSCE from an ABET-accredited program with strong academic background in structural engineering.
  • 7 or more years of experience as a structural engineer, preferably with electrical substations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Experience in writing support documentation for structural calculations.
  • Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule accurately.
  • Knowledgeable in structural engineering applications including analysis and design integrity.
  • Experience with design techniques and tools for technical plans and models.
  • Proficiency in MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
  • Familiarity with design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
