Overview

The Senior Utility Mechanic in Drinking Water Operations is responsible for performing skilled mechanical duties in the maintenance of water systems and facilities for the City of Houston. This position involves considerable physical exertion and requires a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled mechanical duties in the maintenance of water systems and facilities.
  • Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, lubrications, and repairs on various equipment.
  • Maintain and repair equipment and tools used in responsibilities.
  • Collect and catalog data on installed equipment.
  • Make service calls to maintain and repair equipment and install identification tags.
  • Report unsafe conditions and equipment to proper authorities.
  • Keep records of service calls, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Drive a City vehicle and maintain vehicle maintenance and mileage records.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mathematical functions from specialized training.
  • Three years of building or mechanical maintenance experience, or one year as an operator trainee and two years in building or mechanical maintenance.
  • One year of directly related college or vocational education may substitute for one year of work experience.
  • Valid Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston's driving policy.

  • Workdays are Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
