Overview

The Thermal Spray Operator position involves supporting the repair and manufacturing of critical turbine parts by applying protective coatings that enhance wear resistance, corrosion protection, and thermal barrier performance. Candidates should have experience with industrial gas turbine components and thermal spray equipment in a manufacturing or repair environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Work Instructions and load programs into ABB Robots.
  • Operate and maintain HVOF & PLASMA spray equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and ready for coating applications.
  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, masking, and grit blasting.
  • Handle and prepare thermal spray materials for the coating process.
  • Apply HVOF & PLASMA thermal spray coatings on various substrates.
  • Verify coating thickness, surface finish, and coating quality.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and coating specifications.
  • Monitor the spray process to ensure it meets specifications.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and process adjustments.
  • Adhere to safety initiatives and promote safety processes.
  • Document and record all spray and coating processes and data.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve process gaps.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating plasma spray or thermal spray coating equipment.
  • 3-5 years of experience coating industrial gas turbine components.
  • Knowledge of thermal spray processes, including plasma spray and HVOF.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical arithmetic.
  • Familiarity with coating thickness measurement equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
