Overview

WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join their Power & Energy team, with opportunities in multiple locations including Houston, TX, Seattle, WA, and others. The role involves working on projects related to power generation and contributing to a growing organization focused on energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
• Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations.
• Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data, interfacing with suppliers and clients.
• Ensure effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
• Prepare construction scopes of work for mechanical systems.
• Participate in the development of PFDs and P&IDs.
• Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, and stress analysis.
• Work as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
• Maintain quality control standards for measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research and findings.
• Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data from field investigations.
• Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
• Comply with regulatory requirements for data integrity and documentation.
• Remain current in mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
• Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical design for industrial facilities.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Working knowledge of Microstation or AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx.
• Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe.
• Experience using Thermoflow.
• Knowledge of mechanical system laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
• Ability to make technical computations and calculations.
• Project management experience with small to mid-level projects.
• Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
• Ability to work independently and guide junior team members.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to direct others in the field to complete tasks safely.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project requirements.
• Occasional travel may be required.
