Overview

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent. The Boilermaker / Plant Operator II position involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of steam plant boilers and chillers, along with performing maintenance and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures safe and efficient operation of steam plant boilers and chillers.
  • Operates and controls utility panels to maintain utility services.
  • Maintains and records entries in logbooks and regulatory reports.
  • Oversees operations associated with an electrical power distribution panel.
  • Reads and interprets OEM Manuals and precision instruments.
  • Performs minor mechanical piping repairs.
  • Conducts preventive and corrective maintenance on utility systems.
  • Samples, tests, analyzes, mixes, and injects chemicals for boiler maintenance.
  • Inspects the steam plant to check meters, charts, pressures, and temperatures.
  • Ensures a clean boiler room to prevent fire hazards.
  • Operates hand and power tools.
  • Follows OSHA standards when working with hazardous materials.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • Drives utility vehicles to and from work sites.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in a multi-boiler high pressure steam plant.
  • Holds a Third Class Power Engineers License issued by NIULPE.
  • Working knowledge of ASME and NFPA codes for power boilers.
  • Some positions may require a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must be capable of frequently lifting and carrying 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds.

Additional Information

  • Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.
