Overview

This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on the design and engineering of ground control shelters and enclosures for defense applications, including perimeter security and aerostat systems. The position involves mechanical design, engineering analysis, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support advanced defense products.

Responsibilities

• Design ground control shelters and enclosures for communications and equipment hubs.
• Develop mechanical designs for EMI and EMP hardening, including flooring and rail systems.
• Perform mechanical design and engineering analysis using SolidWorks.
• Conduct thermal, stress, tolerance analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA).
• Apply ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards.
• Incorporate DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 environmental testing requirements into designs.
• Select and specify mechanical components and materials for defense applications.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation including drawings and test plans.
• Support factory introduction of new products and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team for system integration.
• Contribute to product development from concept through production.
• Participate in bid and proposal activities by providing mechanical engineering input.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with customer and vendor stakeholders.
• Apply knowledge of heat transfer methods for adequate cooling.
• Support grounding and bonding design for electrical performance and safety.
• Assist with platform installation and integration of motorized vehicle systems.
• Provide input on manufacturing methods and material properties.
• Engage in continuous learning to stay current with relevant standards and technologies.
• Act as a self-driven problem solver for complex mechanical engineering challenges.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–10+ years of experience in product development with mechanical engineering responsibilities.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical design and modeling.
• Ability to perform analysis using SolidWorks-associated analytical software.
• Experience with DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 environmental testing requirements.
• Proficiency in ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Experience with heat transfer methods at the systems level.
• Experience conducting thermal analysis, stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and FEA.
• Demonstrated strong technical writing skills.
• High mechanical aptitude for understanding complex mechanical systems.
• Self-driven problem-solving approach and ability to learn quickly.

• This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
