Overview

Arizona Public Service (APS) is the state's largest and longest-serving energy provider, generating reliable, affordable, and clean energy for 2.7 million Arizonans. The Journeyman Welder role supports the safe and efficient production of electric energy through certified welding and mechanical maintenance of power plant equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform certified welds and structural welds on equipment such as boilers and piping systems.
  • Conduct mechanical maintenance and repair of power plant equipment.
  • Write and review work scope and hazard/risk assessments.
  • Read work orders, technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Safely use hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Operate rigging for moving equipment.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly.
  • Clean and prepare base metals for welding.
  • Operate various welding equipment and perform different welding processes.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Identify metals and assess appropriate welding procedures.
  • Cut pipe and metal materials to specifications.
  • Modify, manufacture, or fabricate items to improve plant function.

Requirements

  • Must qualify as a Welder Journeyman.
  • Must complete Welder Apprenticeship Program.
  • Pass the mechanical aptitude test (MASS).
  • Successfully pass written and hands-on tests.
  • Maintain certification for ASME boiler and pressure vessel code.

Additional Information

  • Reasonable and necessary overtime may be required.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility.
  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees.
