Overview

The Mechanical & Piping Technical Specialist I is responsible for supervising and providing technical direction to a team of designers, ensuring the timely delivery of mechanical and piping deliverables while meeting budget and quality expectations. This role requires extensive experience in mechanical and piping design and involves project controls for cost, schedule, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and provide technical direction over a team of designers.
• Deliver mechanical and piping services on time and within budget.
• Perform advanced design work as a technical specialist.
• Utilize department design and drafting standards.
• Communicate project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
• Assist on-site during startup.
• Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
• Coordinate work activities with other staff and discipline leads.
• Produce mechanical and piping installation specifications.
• Mentor subordinates and participate in squad checks.
• Check calculations made by other designers for accuracy.
• Determine construction quantities and provide cost estimates.
• Delegate work to designers based on their skills and experience.
• Consult with design leaders from other disciplines.
• Participate in planning training programs and professional development.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting.
• SPED Certification preferred.
• 12+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design.
• Knowledge of piping materials and design of moderately complex piping systems.
• Ability to create accurate mechanical/piping installation documents.
• Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and Microstation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
