Job Description

Overview

The City of Phoenix Public Works Department is seeking a skilled Welder to fabricate, repair, and modify metal equipment and structures. This role involves working with various welding techniques and performing mechanical repairs on heavy-duty equipment to improve the quality of life in Phoenix.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, repair, and modify metal equipment and structures using acetylene, MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
  • Weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals and perform mechanical repairs on heavy-duty equipment.
  • Complete fabrication assignments from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
  • Maintain written records of work completed and follow all safety procedures.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a skilled welder or completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship.
  • Ability to weld and repair components on various equipment and structures.
  • Experience with aluminum welding and rebuilding heavy-duty equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and working drawings.
  • Completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or certification from an approved welding trade school program.
