Job Description

Overview

At Freeport-McMoRan, the Overhead Crane Technician is a highly skilled position that requires a broad level of mechanical, electrical, and maintenance knowledge to enhance production efficiency while ensuring safety. The role involves conducting inspections, performing maintenance, and mentoring other technicians in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly and annual safety inspections on overhead bridge cranes.
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on mechanical and electrical components of overhead cranes.
  • Repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance of overhead cranes.
  • Complete work orders, order parts, and maintain documentation.
  • Operate overhead and mobile cranes and apply safe rigging practices.
  • Follow MSHA and environmental regulations and participate in safety activities.

Requirements

  • Four years of combined mechanical and electrical experience.
  • Two years experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair.
  • Two years experience or a combination of education and experience in industrial electrical and/or instrumentation repair.
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved certified electronics, electrical, and/or instrumentation program.
  • Proficiency in welding/cutting (MIG, TIG, ARC, Oxy-acetylene).
  • Competent in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic metallurgy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical equipment.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG, TIG, and Stick work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
