Overview

The Fabrication Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day operations in the fabrication department, ensuring customer orders are produced safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role involves planning and directing people, equipment, and workflows while collaborating with various departments to improve fabrication performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of fabrication supervisors, machine operators, fitters, welders, and material handlers.
• Own daily production planning and scheduling for fabrication equipment.
• Ensure safe work practices and compliance with OSHA standards.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take corrective action as needed.
• Review fabrication drawings and work orders for accuracy and manufacturability.
• Confirm parts are produced to specification and in alignment with applicable codes.
• Coordinate with Maintenance for preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment.
• Drive standard work and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support quality procedures and assist with root cause analysis for non-conforming products.
• Collaborate with Logistics/Shipping to meet customer delivery expectations.
• Partner with HR on staffing, training, and performance reviews.
• Manage overtime, staffing levels, and indirect labor to meet budget objectives.
• Participate in capital planning for new fabrication equipment and technology upgrades.
• Promote a positive, team-oriented culture that reflects company values.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive experience in steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing.
• 3+ years of leadership experience in a fabrication or production setting.
• Strong working knowledge of steel fabrication processes.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication prints and technical documents.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and practices.
• Proven track record of improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics.
• Experience using ERP/MRP and production scheduling systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data analysis for KPI tracking.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
