Overview

This National Guard position is for a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) TITLE 32, responsible for performing sheet metal maintenance on aircraft and components as part of the IL AASF 2, National Guard.

Responsibilities

  • Repair cracks in aircraft skin.
  • Fabricate and fit patches to damaged areas as necessary.
  • Install various types of aircraft rivets and fasteners using specialized tools.
  • Remove, fabricate, repair, modify, and install parts and assemblies.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot aircraft structures.
  • Fit and trim components to aircraft.
  • Devise and calculate patterns for fabrication.
  • Align component structures and airframe using precision instruments.
  • Perform metal to metal bonding where necessary.
  • Inspect for corrosion and perform necessary treatments.
  • Inspect, repair, fabricate and replace structural assemblies.
  • Set up, operate and maintain metal working equipment and tools.
  • Prepare and design layout, dies, jigs, and templates for fabrication.
