Overview

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent. The Maintenance Mechanic III is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of building facilities, electrical, mechanical systems, and plumbing.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical documents to locate trouble areas and complete repairs.
  • Repairs and adjusts doors, windows, closures, panic devices, and locks.
  • Patches holes, installs escutcheons, and repairs ceiling and floor tile as needed.
  • Makes minor masonry and wood repairs.
  • Installs pictures, coat hooks, and other wall-hung furnishings as requested.
  • Operates and maintains specific equipment, conducts surveys and inventories, and performs preventive maintenance activities.
  • May perform daily chemical tests on water systems and adjust chemical mixtures and feed rates.
  • Enters data into computer systems and maintains records and files.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Responds to customer requests and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Participates in the onboarding and training of staff.
  • Provides guidance to staff to ensure work orders are completed accurately and timely.
  • Assigns and schedules work.
  • Operates and maintains building facilities, systems, and equipment related to plumbing, electricity, HVAC, and steam control.
  • Operates and maintains building equipment and systems such as vacuum systems, control air systems, emergency generators, and more.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and three years of experience in building maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and general carpentry.
  • Working knowledge of computer or mobile applications.
  • Ability to conduct hands-on training for others.
  • May require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Some positions may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, twist, climb a ladder, and walk for distances up to one mile.
