Overview

This Pipefitter position is located in the Facility Maintenance Service Line at the Department of Veterans Affairs, VHA Connecticut, Newington Campus. The role involves modifying, maintaining, and repairing various high, medium, and low pressure piping systems.

Responsibilities

  • Cuts, threads, and installs pipe, hangers, pipe insulation, and other heating devices.
  • Installs, plumbs, and maintains a variety of lines including copper, cast & black iron, steel, brass, and plastic.
  • Performs welding repairs and fabrication using various welding techniques.
  • Tests systems and equipment after completing work.
  • Inspects, adjusts, cleans, and repairs plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and manufacturers' specifications.
  • Conducts safety and preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems.
  • Figures pressures and fixtures units within a system.
  • Uses tools to find the root cause of problems and prevent future failures.

Additional Information

  • Full-time position, 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm EST.
  • Physical requirements include standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
