Overview

Skyline Windows is a family-owned business and one of the premier custom window manufacturers in the United States, seeking well-rounded window mechanics for the Lead Mechanic position. The role involves removing, installing, and finishing custom windows and terrace doors while ensuring safety and quality on construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full window and terrace door removals on occupied and active construction sites.
  • Install replacement and new-construction units including various window types and terrace doors.
  • Level, shim, plumb, and square openings to tolerance and anchor per approved details.
  • Set up and shoot benchmarks and control lines with a laser level.
  • Glaze windows and install locks and hardware on frames.
  • Cut and fit capping and complete trimming of panning.
  • Caulk and silicone frames and joints to ensure watertight conditions.
  • Perform adjustments, troubleshooting, and repair to customer satisfaction.
  • Read and work from approved shop drawings and installation details.
  • Set up material and plan the next day’s work for crew productivity.
  • Complete all orders and daily reports accurately and on time.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA and NYC DOB standards.
  • Load and unload materials from the truck onto the work site.
  • Keep company tools in good working order and protect customer spaces.
  • Run a crew of 2–6 mechanics and assign work while holding the daily production schedule.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for supervisors and contractors.
  • Verify openings against approved drawings and flag discrepancies.
  • Establish benchmarks and control lines for the crew.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and confirm the right material is on site.
  • Enforce safety and quality standards on the crew.
  • Train and develop less experienced mechanics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience removing and installing windows.
  • Familiarity with commercial and residential window types and hardware systems.
  • Proven caulking and weatherproofing ability.
  • Ability to read shop drawings and detailed work orders.
  • Experience setting benchmarks and layout with a laser level.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Strong safety awareness and a clean work ethic.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple crews.
  • Professional and customer-service oriented.
  • Good communication skills.
