Overview

The Shipbuilder position at Hanwha Philly Shipyard involves performing various shipbuilding tasks while adhering to safety procedures and regulations. The role requires independent work, technical skills, and the ability to read blueprints, contributing to the production of large steel structures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures and regulations.
  • Work independently following instructions and standards.
  • Utilize various shipbuilding tools such as grinders and torches.
  • Read shipbuilding blueprints and technical documents.
  • Perform basic plate and stiffener assembly.
  • Handle large panel and double bottom production, including pre-outfitting.
  • Manage web line production, including plate cutting.
  • Occasionally move and store materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Oversee all areas in yard production, including dry dock and fabrication.
  • Check areas before starting hot work and protect them from potential hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in shipyards with shipbuilding production or ship repair.
  • Experience with manufacturing of heavy steel structures, pressure vessels, and boilers.
  • Proficient in welding, fitting, and using hand tools.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints.

  • This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position with varying shifts and hours.
