Overview

Black Hills Energy is a purpose-driven utility company serving over one million customers across the West and Midwest. The Welder 1 position involves the installation and maintenance of gas pipelines and related facilities, emphasizing safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and inspect pipeline and structural welding for construction and maintenance of Company facilities.
  • Install, relocate, replace, maintain, and repair gas lines.
  • Provide oversight and inspection for excavation activities near pipeline facilities.
  • Complete required documentation and report progress to Operations Management.
  • Be available for emergency response and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Represent the Company in meetings with landowners, public officials, and local organizations.
  • Train and oversee company and second party personnel.
  • Perform governmental compliance activities.
  • Maintain mapping, documentation, record keeping, and data entry duties.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Participate in the development of O&M Procedures and project scopes.
  • Advance to subsequent levels via completion of applicable OQs and certifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's Degree of Applied Science in Welding or equivalent experience.
  • Welder experience required.
  • API 1104 welding certification preferred, must obtain within 180 days of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Class A CDL License required within specific timeframes.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Operate micrometers, calipers, and thickness testing equipment.
  • Operate all plastic fusion equipment.
