Overview

Cornerstone Building Brands is a leading manufacturer of exterior building products for residential and low-rise non-residential buildings in North America. The Welder position involves working in a manufacturing environment, focusing on welding procedures and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Understand all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Coordinate welder settings, gun speed/travel, and gas flow with the observed condition of the bead.
  • Read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standards.
  • Decide when adjustments or gun manipulations need to be altered.
  • Determine repairs for pin holes and burn-through caused by an auto welder.
  • Train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures.
  • Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment.
  • Maintain specified shapes, sizes, and penetrations of beads while ensuring product quality.
  • Keep numerical and alphabetical sequences correct.
  • Maintain continuous improvement practices in the work area.
  • May be assigned other projects and duties as designated by Team Leader.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school; or 1 to 3 years working experience in welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience as a welder/fitter in the manufacturing industry.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
  • Read and comprehend documents including policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Perform general mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and division.
  • Required to use power hand tools.
  • Required to drive a forklift.
  • Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Read different measuring devices such as tape measures, protractors, and micrometers.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist.
