Overview

The Designer Structures position at the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) involves performing design tasks for railroad structures under the jurisdiction of the Managing Engineer – Civil Design. The role requires field investigations and the development of design documents, ensuring safety and economic objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all assigned design tasks to meet work objectives.
  • Participate in design projects from inception to completion.
  • Assist during design development through field investigations and coordination.
  • Contribute to the development of plans and specifications.
  • Participate in design and project meetings representing LIRR's interests.
  • Engage in overtime assignments for emergency response and special projects.
  • Supply input for schedule and budget parameters governing design work.
  • Complete tasks to ensure timely and accurate project completion.
  • Perform timely Construction Phase Services and review shop-drawings.
  • Maintain and develop professional and technical knowledge.
  • Promote a diverse workforce and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to safety policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years of experience in civil/structural design projects.
  • Relevant experience with engineering consultants, contractors, or State/City Agencies.
  • Proficiency in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent field.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including structural analysis software and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work independently and lead tasks to completion.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
