The Plant Utilities Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing utility systems and equipment to minimize downtime and meet efficiency goals.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all Plant and Safety policies and procedures, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure equipment meets safety standards and regulations.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair steam boilers, glycol chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, nitrogen generation, CO2 recovery, and other utility systems.
  • Analyze data from various systems to ensure continuous and cost-effective treatment.
  • Initiate corrective actions during outages, repairs, or breakdowns at the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Perform basic and advanced laboratory tests as needed.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine analysis of waste streams and utility systems.
  • Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance of associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Communicate important information during shift changes.
  • Collaborate with team members to transfer technical knowledge.
  • Work with leadership on continuous improvement projects.

Requirements

  • 1 – 3 years of relevant work experience with chillers/boilers, CO2 recovery, RO systems, or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, sludge processing, chemistry, and microbiology.
  • Competent in the operation of equipment used in wastewater treatment plants.
  • Experience with pumps, motors, compressors, boilers, and SCADA systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Word, email, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
