Overview

Compass Minerals is a leading global provider of essential minerals, focused on delivering solutions to help solve nature’s challenges. The Welder position involves performing preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment throughout the plant, with a primary focus on welding.

Responsibilities

  • Support efforts of Welding and Mechanic roles.
  • Inspect machinery to ensure proper function.
  • Communicate with machine operators to troubleshoot identified problems.
  • Notify plant area of work to be performed to get area locked out and obtain appropriate permits.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on and lubricate equipment.
  • Perform lock-out tag-out test.
  • Repair malfunctioning or broken equipment, including screen plant, process equipment, general plant equipment, conveyor systems, forklifts, haul trucks, Cat loader, Cat scalers, manlifts, etc.
  • Repair equipment containing hydraulics, motors, pneumatics, belts, pumps, and gear boxes.
  • Perform welding in various positions to repair or modify machinery and equipment.
  • Perform rigging.
  • Fabricate machine guards to improve operational safety of machinery and equipment.
  • Fabricate hoppers for materials.
  • Mentor/train new maintenance employees.
  • Prepare paperwork associated with job assignment, job status, and job completion.
  • Operate forklift, cherry picker, skid steer, manlifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent or completion of Apprenticeship Program or Technical Trade School and 4 years’ experience in maintenance field or industrial environment.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in repairing and maintaining stationary equipment.
  • Ability to comply with company and MSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work in team environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications and ability to learn new software programs.
