Overview

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel is seeking a Mason for their East Chicago, Indiana operation. The Mason will perform masonry work in plant maintenance and construction, requiring prior steel industry experience and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Receives instructions and prints regarding work assignments.
• Interprets prints or sketches, plans work details, and determines material and tool requirements.
• Directs or assists in razing old structures and removing brick and debris.
• Lays out work or assists in establishing elevations, corner points, and base lines.
• Determines properties and workability of bonding and ceramic materials.
• Directs or assists in setting or removing masonry forms.
• Exercises safety precautions and handles materials and equipment.
• Directs helpers in mixing concrete and transporting materials.
• Performs rough and finish masonry work including laying brick and concrete finishing.
• Cuts and fits masonry materials for structures involving arches and curves.
• Positions and grouts prefabricated parts to complete structures.
• Operates masonry saw for various applications.
• Performs labor work including demolition and mixing mortars.
• Installs refractory gunnite and shotcrete materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Completion of a certified training or apprenticeship program.
• Ability to work full-time, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Must pass all required testing.
• Willingness to work at heights and in extreme temperatures.
• Ability to climb and walk on uneven surfaces.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
