Overview

Clean Harbors in East Chicago, IN is seeking an Environmental Field Laborer to join their safety-conscious team. The role involves hazardous waste clean-up, site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling hazardous materials, with a focus on safe and compliant transfer of bulk materials.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies and acting safely.
  • Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting and pulling heavy objects.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment and use various hand and powered industrial tools.
  • Wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) in various combinations.
  • Work in various temperatures and weather conditions indoors and outdoors.
  • Work in atmospheres with potential exposure to hazardous, toxic, or corrosive agents.
  • Work in elevated noise levels and confined spaces.
  • Assist in field sampling activities and calibration of meters.
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding and enter various containers.
  • Attend compliance and safety update meetings.
  • Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Safely load and unload hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Conduct waste stream sampling and profiling as necessary.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT and other requirements.
  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be on call for emergency response on a rotating basis.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to perform physical functions as per job requirements.
  • Agree to be on-call for emergency response, including weekends and holidays.
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical.
  • Meet facial hair standards for positions requiring respirators.
  • Valid Driver’s license preferred.
  • Previous relevant labor experience preferred.
