Overview

JGM is seeking an experienced, AWS-Certified Welding Inspector for a 100% field-based, traveling role. The position involves inspecting structural steel welds and ensuring compliance with code across various job sites nationwide.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual and dimensional weld inspections on structural steel members according to AWS D1.1 and AISC 360.
• Conduct welder performance qualification testing and verify that Welding Procedure Specifications are current.
• Test and requalify welders as needed and maintain qualification records for all welding personnel.
• Review erection drawings and specifications to ensure welds meet design intent during field erection.
• Coordinate with NDE/NDT technicians for weld testing beyond visual inspection and review resulting reports.
• Document all inspections, non-conformances, and corrective actions clearly and thoroughly.
• Assemble and maintain quality documentation packages for project turnover and client submittal.
• Serve as the on-site point of contact for third-party inspectors and client quality representatives.
• Flag discrepancies between project specifications and code minimums and escalate as necessary.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective action reporting for quality issues.
• Travel continuously between active job sites nationwide as project schedules require.

Requirements

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification is required.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on weld inspection experience in structural steel fabrication or erection.
• Solid working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AISC fabrication/erection standards.
• Experience testing and qualifying welders and reviewing WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation.
• Comfortable reading structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Familiarity with NDE methods (UT, MT, PT, RT).
• Strong written communication skills for clear inspection reports.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and QC tracking software.
• Willing and able to travel 100% of the time with a valid driver's license.
• Able to pass a background check and drug screen.
