Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs machine operations from blueprints to build and repair tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and machine manuals.
  • Fabricates tools and machine parts using various tools and equipment.
  • Performs heat treating of steels.
  • Operates various machines including drill press, milling machines, and CNC mill.
  • Contacts suppliers regarding mold information and repair issues.
  • Influences tool design by providing input to engineering.
  • Assists team members in meeting department requirements.
  • Maintains and improves knowledge and skills in trade areas.
  • Operates company vehicles and material handling equipment.
  • Completes paperwork and maintenance records.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Trains and guides apprentices.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a 4 year apprenticeship program certified by the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid powered industrial truck operator permit and a State of Michigan Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Requires judgment, organization, initiative, teamwork, creativity, problem solving, and commitment.
  • Physical ability to bend, lift heavy objects, and work in confined spaces.
  • Commitment to continuous learning.
