Overview

The Welder (IMD) position involves precision welding functions to support small and prototype fabrication efforts, requiring expertise in metal welding and cutting within exact tolerances. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and compliance with operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Weld various types of metals, generally holding tolerances within 0.005 inches.
  • Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders.
  • Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, and repair broken or cracked parts.
  • Analyze engineering designs to solve or provide insight into metal structural issues.
  • Create new methods and procedures to achieve work goals.
  • Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical training beyond high school.
  • Minimum of seven years of job experience or equivalent.
  • Operating knowledge of precision sheet metal welding and various welding processes.
  • Must have a valid and current state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to complete paperwork associated with the position.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
