The Weld Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the welding department's performance, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity while supporting the company's growth and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Owns welding department performance for safety, quality, delivery, productivity, labor effectiveness, cost control, and employee capability.
• Leads Welder I, Welder II, and Welder III employees by setting clear expectations, assigning work, coaching performance, addressing gaps, and enforcing consistent accountability.
• Plans and adjusts daily department execution by aligning labor, equipment, materials, priorities, and constraints to meet production commitments.
• Verifies work requirements by reviewing drawings, work orders, travelers, specifications, welding requirements, quality standards, and delivery expectations before and during execution.
• Ensures compliance with safety practices, documented procedures, and required inspections for safe execution of welding work.
• Maintains weld quality and department conformance through inspections, quality reviews, and corrective actions on nonconformance.
• Develops workforce capability through onboarding, training, cross-training, and succession planning.
• Supports full-cycle talent management for the welding department in partnership with Human Resources.
• Creates, tracks, monitors, and improves department KPIs tied to various performance metrics.
• Uses ERP and operational data to identify risks, set priorities, allocate resources, and communicate performance to plant leadership.
• Ensures data integrity for labor reporting, production reporting, and compliance with operational procedures.
• Identifies and corrects reporting errors and process breakdowns affecting operational reliability.
• Implements and audits welding department SOPs, work instructions, and training requirements.
• Converts undocumented practices into repeatable standards in partnership with other departments.
• Ensures welding equipment and tools are maintained and available for production.
• Maintains accurate department records for various performance metrics.
• Promotes teamwork and addresses conflict early to build a disciplined work environment.
• Leads continuous improvement actions to enhance overall department performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 5 years of welding or fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment required.
• Minimum 2 years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience in hiring, coaching, and managing employee performance preferred.
• Experience in developing employees and leading training preferred.
• AWS welding certification, CWI/CWE exposure, or equivalent welding qualification preferred.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems and production reporting preferred.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to build accountability.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Knowledge of steel fabrication processes and welding techniques preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
