Overview

The ASME Hand Arc Welder will serve our Water Heater Division, located in Montgomery, AL, and is responsible for welding metal components according to specified guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Welds together metal component parts using electric arc-welding equipment.
  • Sets and adjusts welding generator to ensure proper voltage output.
  • Selects appropriate size and composition of electrode and properly mounts in holder.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts using welding equipment.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, or vertical position.
  • Cleans or degreases parts using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Inspects finished workpiece for conformance to specifications.
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scraper or power chipper.
  • Positions workpieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures.
  • Preheats workpiece using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Passes and maintains employer performance tests or standard tests as required.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in work area.
  • Observes all departmental safety requirements.
  • May be exposed to high noise levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Must hold and maintain a current ASME certification.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years prior work experience as a Hand Arc Welder or an Associate degree or Certificate in Welding Technology.
  • Continuous lifting of 5-25 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting of 25-60 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of 60+ lbs.
  • Frequent strain due to position and unsupported lifting.
  • Use of personal protective equipment including a face shield, respirator, and protective clothing.
