Overview

Welcome to Ryerson, a leading provider of industrial metal products and services since 1842. As a Welder at Norlen, part of the Ryerson family of companies, you will apply welding and fabricating processes to metal while ensuring quality and customer standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Applies appropriate welding and assembling applications in a fabrication environment and processes metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Works according to the layouts, work orders, and blueprints using MIG and TIG welding equipment.
  • Lays out and marks weld points on parts or sub-assemblies and positions pieces to be welded into jigs and fixtures.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.
  • Observes all standard safety practices and maintains and completes all required records.
  • Works in a safe manner using prescribed safety equipment including PPE.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a steel or industrial manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Extensive MIG welding experience; TIG welding experience preferred.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience.
  • Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility.
  • Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding.

TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
