Overview

The Mechanical Technician position in Houston, TX, offers an opportunity for hands-on work with specialized cryogenic pumps and rotating equipment in a service center. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and rebuilding equipment to ensure reliable operation, making it ideal for mechanically inclined individuals who prefer practical work over desk jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild cryogenic pumps, motors, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose damaged or worn components and help identify potential causes of equipment failure.
  • Assemble pump components including bearings, seals, shafts, and related mechanical components.
  • Fit, align, and adjust components to precise tolerances.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, prints, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Perform detailed dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments.
  • Document measurements, tolerances, and clearances during the rebuild process.
  • Perform troubleshooting, rework, and repair as needed.
  • Contribute to failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Operate shop equipment including drill presses, hydraulic presses, bench grinders, pipe threading and bending equipment, cutting torches, band saws, and related tools.
  • Communicate technical findings and repair evaluations when needed.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality, sales, and service teams.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment using 5S principles.
  • Complete quality repairs safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in a shop, repair, maintenance, or similar mechanical environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read mechanical prints, drawings, or schematics.
  • Experience using hand tools, shop equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to perform detailed inspections and work to close tolerances.
  • Strong attention to quality and safety.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
