Overview

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP (E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in engineering services including project engineering, design, and inspection services. The Coating Inspector is responsible for inspecting contractor quality of work related to the coating of steel pipes and fittings on pipeline construction projects, ensuring compliance with client policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect contractor work for compliance with permit and one-call requirements.
  • Communicate deviations to the Chief Inspector and client immediately.
  • Verify contractors have necessary equipment and safety measures.
  • Ensure contractors follow client best practices.
  • Confirm all gas lines and utilities are marked and painted according to local requirements.
  • Field verify construction equipment and materials for inventory and billing.
  • Inspect material waste to reduce potential loss.
  • Verify contractors adhere to client procedures and coating manufacturers' instructions.
  • Confirm all materials are properly constructed and documented before use.
  • Complete and submit daily inspection forms as requested.
  • Review contractors' Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) paths.
  • Witness HDD pull-throughs and verify pipe support and coating protection.
  • Ensure approved polymers and additives are used in drilling fluids.
  • Verify pull force does not exceed design specifications.
  • Witness hydrostatic testing and verify calibration papers.
  • Ensure pipelines are properly cleaned and dried before commissioning.
  • Inspect pipelines for deformation and irregularities.
  • Validate environmental Best Management Practices are followed.
  • Visually inspect pipe for defects and ensure proper repairs before backfills.
  • Verify field applied pipe coating meets specifications.
  • Inspect shrink sleeves for proper installation.
  • Coordinate with survey crews for accurate as-built information.
  • Ensure proper padding and bedding around pipes.
  • Verify pipe rigging and lowering into trench without damage.
  • Check for damage to pipe and weld joint coatings after HDD activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and implement client policies and procedures.
  • Minimum of two years coordinating and inspecting natural gas pipeline construction projects.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and translate to field constructability.
  • Experience inspecting application of field applied pipeline coatings.
  • Competent in 49 CFR 192, ASME 31.8, and applicable OSHA standards.
  • NACE CIP Level 1 certification.
  • Employment contingent upon completing applicable training during onboarding.
