Overview

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, is a leading national provider of technical and construction services supporting critical electric infrastructure. They are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural engineer to join their Preconstruction group, focusing on high voltage substation EPC projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform material takeoffs and cost estimates for substation EPC projects.
  • Develop concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, earthwork, grading, drainage, and civil infrastructure quantities.
  • Prepare estimate basis documentation and assumption logs.
  • Perform value engineering analysis and identify cost-saving alternatives.
  • Review geotechnical investigation reports for foundation system design.
  • Develop or review structure designs for substation equipment.
  • Create detailed scopes of work and technical specifications.
  • Develop RFQ packages for civil/structural subcontract scopes.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to align material specs with project requirements.
  • Review client-furnished electrical plans for civil/structural implications.
  • Participate in constructibility reviews to identify site conditions affecting costs.
  • Mentor junior civil/structural engineers.
  • Assist with change order preparation during project execution.
  • Conduct site investigations to gather field data.
  • Lead or participate in internal proposal reviews.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Construction Management from an ABET-accredited program preferred.
  • 4-7 years of experience in civil/structural design or estimating on substation or heavy power infrastructure EPC projects required.
  • Demonstrated experience with structural analysis and design for substation applications.
  • Experience developing civil/structural estimates for high voltage substation projects.
  • P.E. license preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure will be considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable design codes.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
  • Proficient with digital takeoff tools.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
