Job Description
Overview
The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is seeking a Carpenter to perform installation and repair work related to the maintenance of the city’s elevated infrastructure. Candidates must be serving permanently in the title or be reachable on the open-competitive list.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation and repair work involving rough, finish, and general carpentry.
- Build and repair toolboxes and various types of ladders and other equipment.
- Work from plans and sketches.
- Operate both hand and powered woodworking equipment.
- Keep job records.
- Perform related duties, which may require working at heights and in confined spaces.
- May be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends.
Requirements
- Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Carpenter acquired within the last 10 years.
- Three years of experience as described above, plus sufficient training from an approved trade or vocational high school to total five years of acceptable experience.
- Possession of a driver’s license valid in the State of New York with no restrictions.
