Overview

The Electrician I position involves installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems up to 600 volts, as well as assisting with medium voltage equipment under supervision. The role includes troubleshooting Medical Center electronic circuits and providing guidance to Electrician III.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs and maintains all electrical systems, up to and including medium voltage equipment (15,000 volts maximum), controls equipment and associated ancillary equipment using various tools and instruments.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains Medical Center electronic circuits.
  • Performs work of Electrician II or III and provides guidance and instruction to personnel assigned to projects.
  • Assists other tradesmen in performance of their duties as required.
  • Maintains and repairs generators, including troubleshooting and repair of all emergency power systems.
  • Completes reports and surveys, verifies prints to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and reports violations.
  • Recommends and/or prepares purchase requests.
  • Serves as a member of the Fire Response Team.
  • Assists Contractors in shutdown of services and utility systems.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Must be familiar with New York City Electrical Code and other applicable codes.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years Journeyman Electrician experience, required.
  • Knowledge of complex electronic components and circuitry, and ability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
